Please reflect on this headline, which I saw streaming across the ticker at the Post/News building on Saturday:
“Train platforms empty but for the corpses. . .”
Don’t read any further yet; think about it some more.
Okay.
It refers, of course, to an AP story about the recent three-day surge of violence in Mumbai. The article is actually quite good, but the headline struck me a bit inane, streaming as it did across the building’s garish strip of LED ephemera, incomplete, reading like a supernatural collaboration between Dickens and Stephen King.
Tragedy unfelt tends to be very absurd, I guess.
